I was bored so there.
Remember when a next gen console meant "better graphics" and people still gave a damn? Seriously, the difference between an X-Box and an X-Box 360 is rather minimal as far as improving gameplay and graphics goes. You're just paying hundreds of dollars for extra polygons. I'll always remember when the N64 came out. It was the first time a good console allowed fully 3D adventures with awesome graphics. Back then, a lot less people had good computers. Heck I remember ours: shitty computer that could barely run a SNES emulator and with 5 gig hardrives. That was 10 years ago, and gameplay has been stagnating ever since. The coolest game of the day? Guitar hero. It's got shitty graphics. In fact, it could have SNES-level graphics and it would still kick the ass of most new WW2 shooters with an impossibly huge budget. Nintendo has clearly understood this by moving to weird devices like the WII remote and the DS touch screen. Anyways just wanted to say that I think it's pretty sad that future generations won't get to experience how cool it is for games to get better graphics. When the NES jumped to SNES, it was so awesome my brain almost melted. It had better sound, better graphics and a better controller. And the N64 beat the tar out of that system, giving players an entirely new DIMENSION. But you can't get "better sound" anymore and the graphics are practically photo-realistic. What's happening to games is the same thing that happened to movies in the 90s. Who the hell gives a shit about special effects anymore? No one. Now movies boil down to the plot once again, and how boring is that? Graphics won't impress anyone in the future. The playstation1 had amazing CGI sequences in its games that made us all cream our pants, but now we expect them. In fact some people are starting to hate them because they'd rather be playing the game. So I guess it's not really my loss since I grew up on the Nintendo and don't really play games anymore. The future of games probably will revolve around insane contraptions, the guitar controller for Guitar Hero being one of the first ( and possibly most awesome forever ). |
